“August 14, 1775

Fresh gales and cloudy.  Came up and spoke with four wreckers belonging to New Providence. Came to anchor at Key Tavernier with the small bower [anchor] in 3 fathom water.  Ditto Key W by S 2 miles as  also the wreckers.  At ½ past 6 weighed and came to sail going through the Keys—“
